Questions and answers

Everything people usually ask before a course and before a massage session — in one place.

Certificate and work

What document will I receive and where is it valid? Can I work abroad?

A Savia school certificate in Ukrainian and English. In Ukraine, no medical background is needed to work in a spa, a salon or private practice. To work in a medical facility, it is.

Many of our students work abroad. Requirements for providing massage treatments differ from country to country — check with your employer.

Is your certificate a "state" or "international standard" one?

No, and honest schools don't promise that. We issue a Savia school certificate in Ukrainian and English. Every certificate has an individual number, so an employer can check that the person really trained with us 😉 To work in Ukraine our certificate is enough, unless it is a state facility: there you will also need medical education. Private clinics usually accept our certificate, and many of our graduates without medical training work as massage therapists in clinics. Abroad the rules vary: sometimes the certificate is enough, and sometimes employers ask for a transcript of hours, medical education or a translation of the certificate into the language of the country where you want to work.

Can a Savia graduate's certificate be verified?

Yes. Every certificate has a number. An employer can contact us with that number and we will confirm the document is genuine.

Do I need to register as a sole proprietor, and is a licence required?

To work for yourself in Ukraine you can register as a sole proprietor (FOP): massage is a service, activity code 96.04. Services to the public are usually provided under single tax group 2, and if you work with companies, under group 3. A licence is only needed for medical practice (Law No. 222-VIII), and wellness massage for healthy people does not count as medical practice. We recommend checking the tax group with an accountant.

Where do your graduates work, and do you help find a job?

Our students work in salons all over Odesa. Salon owners often come to us for staff, even without experience, because they know the quality of our training. Owners have thanked Ivan at events because half their team trained at our school. Kateryna Fedorova worked on a cruise ship after our course and now owns a salon in Athens: watch the interview. See for yourself in our reviews, list of salons and interviews. We don't promise "100% job placement", but in the last class we explain how to find clients, and our Telegram channel posts vacancies from partners.

How much does a beginner massage therapist really earn in Odesa?

An honest path: 12,000–20,000 UAH a month at first, 30,000–45,000 UAH after a year. The basic course pays for itself in about 29 sessions if you earn 350 UAH per session. You can get a closer estimate with the calculator on the basic course page. The estimate excludes tax, rent and consumables.

Can I work without my own room?

Yes. You can work in a salon for a base rate plus 40–60% of the session price, rent a room by the hour or visit clients. We post room rental offers in the Telegram channel for graduates.

What should I buy to start and how much does it cost?

To start you need a massage table, oil and basic supplies. You'll find them all with prices on the Massage Supplies page.

Which course should I take after the basic one to earn more?

Most students grow in three directions: body contouring, facial massage and pain work. Sessions after this training cost 800–2,000 UAH. See the advanced courses.

Online courses

How do I get access to an online course?

After payment you get instant access to the lessons on the learning platform in Telegram. Access lasts 6 months.

Can I pay from abroad?

Yes. We accept Visa and Mastercard cards from any bank; the amount is charged in hryvnias (UAH) at your bank’s exchange rate.

What language are the courses recorded in?

The courses are recorded in Russian — it is the instructor’s working language, which he has used in his practice for over 18 years. We deliberately state this before payment so that you can make your decision knowing all the terms.

Please note that we are a Ukrainian company and pay taxes only in Ukraine.

We are currently working hard on our Ukrainian so that our next courses can be filmed in Ukrainian ❤️

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of payment, if the course isn’t right for you. The terms are in the public offer.

Can I learn massage online from scratch?

From scratch we recommend studying in person or one-to-one online with a live teacher, because a beginner needs someone to correct their hands. The recorded online courses are made for practitioners, and there is also Massage for Loved Ones.

Will I get a certificate for an online course?

Yes, a certificate in Ukrainian that you print yourself.

How long does access last and can it be extended?

Access lasts 6 months. Extension is paid: write to us and we'll explain the terms.

Is there feedback from the teacher?

Online courses come without feedback. But you can always send your question on Instagram @iv_savchenko, and we'll reply when we can.

Massage studio

What should I bring to a massage?

Nothing special. For a session with the top therapist, bring your MRI, CT or X-ray results or a doctor’s referral, if you have them.

How do I book a massage?

Send a request on the website, message us on Telegram or call us — we will find a convenient time and therapist for you.

Can I give a massage as a gift?

Yes, we will issue a gift certificate for any treatment or course — in any amount. It is personalised with a message of your choice and is valid for 1 year. You can collect a paper certificate at the school; we will send an electronic one by email or Telegram.

Can I come as a model to a class for free?

Yes. We post requests for models with the date, time and massage style on Ivan's Instagram @iv_savchenko.

How many sessions do I need and how often?

It depends on your goal. We recommend preventive massage, so that pain doesn't build up. You need it if you sit a lot and work at a computer, and just as much if you do sport. So whether you move a lot or very little, everyone needs a massage at least once a week. For body contouring you usually need a course of 10 sessions or more. For manual therapy (a session with the top therapist) it depends on your case, but most often 1 session is enough. Your therapist will advise more precisely at the first session.
